Adult Soccer in Santa Maria

As adult soccer increases in popularity in Santa Maria, the teams and, of course, the players are in desperate need of access to more fields to play on, like the Crossroads Basin, for instance. I was fortunate enough to attend the event because of freelance work for the Santa Maria Times, but came away with a great experience that I am very proud of. The guys just want to play soccer!

One player in particular, Juan Meza, told me the story of someone in Orcutt, who donated money and designated a field to play soccer on. He said some of the story might be rumor, but it was believed by many in Santa Maria to be true. The story concludes with the Orcutt city council deciding to rule against the donation because of "conservatives who don't like them" as Juan explained. The fields were never accepted as areas of play. But, again, I cannot confirm this. Either way, the need of a positive influence such as the sport of soccer can't be all that bad, can it?
